Un Café?

Good morning all,

Realisation struck that I have not posted anything coffee related for goodness knows how long… so I thought I would pay homage to my favourite stop in my city Boston tea party  (personal preference of course) I have tried every americano in the city centre over the years and I just can’t top my favourites over at Boston TP! What makes a good coffee? Only a true lover of the roasted bean will know, be it frothy milk, a silky latte, a strong flavour or a good locally/ethically sourced bean…indeed…then of course, there is the location, the atomosphere… many contributing factors go in to finding the perfect coffee shop! this is why I am indeed a “coffee person” Alchemy is involved on both the barista and the consumers parts, in a good coffee house and when they seamlessly combine atmospheric bliss and good produce that’s when it all comes together. Now, I realised there are people who don’t think as deep as I do about the coffee experience and to those people this post is most likely sounding like a deranged rant of an eccentric compulsive BUT to my fellow coffee lovers it’s perfectly compos mentis and “if you know, you know”

” Alchemy – a seemingly magical process of transformation, creation or combination ”

And Bostons TP do not disappoint on the food side either, especially the evert growing selection of Gluten-free cake! But that’s a whole other blog for a whole other day and I may have to go back and take some more pictures and drink some more coffee in the mean time!
Ciao x

Gluten-free chocolate donut bites

Ok, I know what youre thinking…. These arent exactly “clean” but it’s the weekend and I woke up this morning with no peanut butter in the household! That’s my excuse and ravenous for something sweet along side my coffee this morning, not wanting to leave the house because the rugby is on at 11, I decided to whip up these absolute dreams and it only took 5-10 mins!

Ingredients:

Gluten free plain flour – one cup

Baking powder – one table spoon

Milk – add until forms a dough (you can use water or any kind of milk preferred, I find milk makes them more fluffy)

Ground almond – 1/4 cup

Chopped chocolate of any kind, cut into small squares.

Method:

Mix all together in a bowl and add just enough water/milk to form a sticky yet knead-able  dough. Take enough to make a small ball, flatten it in your hand and place the chocolate square in the middle. Roll the chocolate inside then fry for about one min in oil, constantly turning whilst it’s frying. Once golden brown, place into sugar and roll until covered.

VERY naughty but hey it’s Saturday!

FEATURE FRIDAY- Teapigs Organic Matcha powder

image

This weeks feature friday has been a pleasure as always! I am always on the look out for the next big thing of the health world and the lovely people at Teapigs came to the rescue this week with the newest super hero on the block ‘organic matcha tea powder’

Ive been a fan of the green stuff for a while, my good friend from japan, first introduced me to it last summer, her mum sent over a bag and I was immediately in love, however, I haven’t had any since, until now, my prayers had been answered, answered by the scrumptious Teapigs!

image

What is Matcha,You say?

Well Matcha is an acient japanese tea, the original preparation and consumption of ground tea was formed into a ritual by zen buddhists long ago, blends of matcha were given poetic names ‘chamei’ (tea-names) by the plantation, shop or grandmaster of the tea ceremonies. These days the lovely people at Teapigs source their Matcha from the nishio regions of Japan, where leaves are grown undercover to create lots of super healthy amino acids and chlorophyll (the green goodness) they are then dried and ground using granite et voila! theres your super matcha!

image

So what is the verdict?

Having spent a week with this little green machine, it certainly does what it says on the tin, I had a shot in the morning before I left the house, took some in a flask to work with me,created a recipe with it … so you can pretty much say its a winner! You can feel it working immediately from the inside out,an energy boost that (although it hurts me to say it) feels cleaner than coffee, a buzz without any aftertaste or staining of the teeth. Being an avid espresso lover, I will always have my morning coffee with breakfast but  teapigs organic matcha will most certainly be sticking around from now on to give me those amazing antioxidants it is so well renowned for

image

AND of course for me to make and create lots more yummy clean matcha inspired recipes for you all to enjoy using it! there are many ways to enjoy it, hot, cold, chilled or baked, iced, whipped, chuck it into all your favourite cereals and desserts…go matcha mad!
I give this feature a HUGE thumbs up! Thank you Teapigs for the goodies!

image

If you haven’t already heard, Matcha is the new black! Well its been around for centuries in reality but health nuts far and wide are starting to catch on and this amazing green powder not only packs a punch but yields many a superpower! 70x the antioxidants of orange juice, we should all be definitely ( I know I am) adding it to our diets in some form or another, there are so many ways to reap the benefits of matcha tea but for now, here is one of them I made earlier!

1 teaspoon of Teapigs organic matcha powder

1/3 cup of ground almonds

Handful of smashed pistachios

1 tablespoon of vanilla protein powder

1 tablespoon of honey

1 tablespoon of milled linseed

1 teaspoon of cinnamon

Splash of coconut oil

A little water if needed.

Combine the ingredients in a blender (except the water)

Then add water if needed to be able to form balls

Roll in protein powder or coconut or ground almonds

And there you have it store these super hero treats in a tupperware container and use for your boosts throughout the day 🙂
